1. orientation

2. complication 

di bagian complication diisi berkenaan gambaran timbulnya krisis atau persoalan yang dirasakan oleh tokoh pada cerita tersebut yang penting dipecahkan. 

3. resolution 

di bagian resolution diisi berkenaan bagaiman tokoh dari cerita tersebut memecahkan persoalan yang ada di bagian complication. rata-rata ada kian lebih satu resolution untuk satu complication. 

pada lebih dari satu referensi berkenaan narrative text, ada penambahan generic structure pada narrative text, yakni menambahkan coda sehabis resoultion. lantas susunan narrative text merupakan orientiation, complication, resolution serta coda.
